Nasa has convened a public meeting to discuss sightings of unexplained phenomena in the sky. The space agency has convened a panel to examine sightings of what it calls UAPs, or unidentified aerial phenomena, which many refer to as UFOs. Now the group has given its first public discussion, ahead of a report due to be published later this year. The space agency said the work was aimed at making it easier for people to report those UAPs, as well as to examine what exactly they might be. But representatives said that the panel involved in the work had received sustained abuse that had gotten in the way of that work. “Harassment only leads to further stigmatisation of the UAP field, significantly hindering the scientific progress and discouraging others to study this important subject matter,” said Nicky Fox, associate administrator for NASA’s science mission directorate. España va a unirse a los Acuerdos de Artemis, impulsados por Estados Unidos y su agencia espacial NASA, dentro del objetivo de volver a pisar la Luna en el año 2025, como paso previo al salto a Marte de la década de 2030, según ha anunciado Pedro Sánchez tras su reunión con Joe Biden en la Casa Blanca. Los Acuerdos de Artemis son un tratado internacional, basado a su vez en el Tratado sobre el espacio ultraterrestre de 1967, que engloba a los gobiernos de las naciones que desean participar en el programa Artemis, con el objetivo de establecer los principios de cooperación para futuras misiones de exploración y explotación civil en la Luna, Marte y cualquier cometa o asteroide del sistema solar. En resumen, estos acuerdos contemplan un conjunto de normas fundamentales para desarrollar el programa Artemis, que también serán necesarias para definir aspectos como la propiedad o los derechos de explotación de los minerales que puedan extraerse de la Luna y otros cuerpos celestes. Estados Unidos no ha ocultado su intención de llevar a cabo labores de minería en el satélite terrestre. España se ha unido a ellos al margen de su participación como Estado miembro de la Agencia Espacial Europea (ESA), que ya colabora estrechamente en diferentes partes del programa. Con España, 25 países ya forman parte de los Acuerdos de Artemis, que se comprometen a una exploración pacífica del espacio y a compartir sus descubrimientos científicos, así como a favorecer la creación de "zonas seguras" en las que cada nación pueda realizar operaciones en la superficie de la Luna sin interferencias de otros. Aparte de España y Estados Unidos, los firmantes son: Australia, Baréin, Brasil, Canadá, Colombia, República Checa, Francia, Israel, Italia, Japón, Luxemburgo, México, Nueva Zelanda, Nigeria, Polonia, Corea del Sur, Rumanía, Ruanda, Arabia Saudí, Singapur, Ucrania, Emiratos Árabes Unidos y Reino Unido. A NASA panel formed last year to study "unidentified aerial phenomena," commonly referred to as UFOs, held its first public meeting Wednesday ahead of hotly-anticipated report scheduled to be released in the coming weeks. The 16-member body, which includes experts from fields ranging from physics to astrobiology, was tasked with examining unclassified UFO sightings and other data collected from government and commercial sectors. David Spergel, chair of NASA’s panel on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP), said Wednesday that stigma around the reporting of UAP has made the collection of data on the topic difficult. He said data collection is also “unsystematic and fragmented” across many agencies and that reported UAP sightings are often “uninformative” due to lack of quality control and data curation. The panel represents the first such inquiry conducted by the U.S. space agency on a subject the government previously relegated to the secretive purview of military and national security officials. NASA was stunned when the New Horizons Spacecraft returned its first close-up images of Pluto. Previously thought to be a simple icy rock, Pluto turned out to be a surprisingly complex and active world. The spacecraft captured images of vast plains of nitrogen ice, towering mountains of water-ice, and a sky tinged blue by tholin particles in its thin atmosphere. However, the biggest surprise was the heart-shaped feature, later named Tombaugh Regio, which showed signs of geologically recent activity, defying expectations for such a small, cold world so far from the Sun. New Horizons also spotted evidence of possible dune fields, suggesting the existence of weather, winds, and signs of an underground ocean of liquid water. The mission fundamentally reshaped our understanding of Pluto and other Kuiper Belt Objects, proving that even the most remote corners of our system hold surprising complexity. America’s first space station and the first crewed research laboratory in space, Skylab, lifted off on May 14, 1973. Skylab helped pave the way for permanent operations in low-Earth orbit. Over the course of its human occupation from May 25, 1973, to Feb. 8, 1974, three crews visited Skylab, carrying out 270 scientific and technical investigations in astronauts’ physiological responses to long-duration space flight, Earth sciences, solar physics, and astronomy. The research conducted on Skylab helped prepare NASA for living and working in space on the International Space Station, and our journey to the Moon, Mars, and beyond. Live views from the International Space Station (ISS) are streaming from an external camera mounted on the ISS module called Node 2. Node 2 is located on the forward part of the ISS. The camera is looking forward at an angle so that the International Docking Adapter 2, or IDA2, is visible. If the Node 2 camera is not available due to operational considerations for a longer period of time, a continuous loop of recorded HD Earth Views imagery will be displayed. The loop will have “Previously Recorded” on the image to distinguish it from the livestream from the Node 2 camera. The space station orbits Earth about 250 miles (425 kilometers) above the surface. An international partnership of five space agencies from 15 countries operates the station, and it has been continuously occupied since November 2000. It's a microgravity laboratory where science, research, and human innovation make way for new technologies and research breakthroughs not possible on Earth. After 10 days in space, Dragon and Axiom Space’s Ax-2 astronauts Peggy Whitson, John Shoffner, Ali Alqarni, and Rayyanah Barnawi, returned to Earth, splashing down off the coast of Florida at 11:04 p.m. ET on Tuesday, May 30. Falcon 9 launched Dragon and the Ax-2 crew to the orbiting laboratory on Sunday, May 21 at 5:37 p.m. ET from Launch Complex 39A at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Ax-2 was Axiom Space’s second private astronaut mission to the International Space Station, and the second of four missions SpaceX will launch to the space station on behalf of Axiom Space via SpaceX’s Falcon 9 and Dragon vehicles.

A Bolsa de 100 mil Dólares Perdida pela NASA! Que tudo no espaço extremamente caro não é novidade, mas o problema é quando o prejuízo acontece por um vacilo. Em 18 de novembro de 2008, durante uma caminhada espacial, a astronauta americana Heidemarie Stefanyshyn-Piper iniciava uma manutenção na parte externa da Estação Espacial Internacional. Para isso, ela carregava uma bolsa com diversas ferramentas como uma parafusadeira, um aplicador de graxa entre outras. Mas justamente esta última acabou vazando e melecou toda a mala que ficou muito escorregadia. Para complicar, a astronauta não fixou direito a bolsa, fazendo com que se afastasse dela fosse perdida no espaço. Heide comentou na época que pensou em busca-la, mas se colocaria em perigo no processo. Este foi um dos maiores objetos a ser perdido no espaço até hoje, e seu valor estimado era de 100 mil dólares, pois eram ferramentas específicas para uso em órbita, e levá-las até lá também era caríssimo!
