The Sukhoi Su-35 (Russian: Сухой Су-35; NATO reporting name: Flanker-E) is the designation for two improved derivatives of the Su-27 air-defence fighter. They are single-seat, twin-engine, supermaneuverable aircraft, designed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau and built by the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant. The first variant was designed by the Soviet Union during the 1980s as an improvement on the Su-27 and was known as the Su-27M. This derivative incorporated canards and a multi-function radar that transformed the aircraft into a multi-role aircraft, which was structurally reinforced to cope with its greater weight. The first prototype made its maiden flight in June 1988. As the aircraft was not mass-produced due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Sukhoi re-designated the aircraft as Su-35 to attract export orders. The fourteen aircraft produced were used for tests and demonstrations; one example had thrust-vectoring engines and the resultant Su-37 was used as a technology demonstrator. A sole Su-35UB two-seat trainer was also built in the late 1990s that resembled the Su-30MK family. In 2003, Sukhoi embarked on a second modernization of the Su-27 to serve as an interim aircraft awaiting the development of the Sukhoi PAK FA (Su-57) program. Also known as Su-35, this version has a redesigned cockpit and weapons-control system compared to the Su-27M and features thrust-vectoring engines in place of the canards. The type made its first flight in February 2008; although the aircraft was designed for export, the Russian Air Force in 2009 became the launch customer of the aircraft, with the production version called Su-35S. China's People's Liberation Army Air Force and the Indonesian Air Force have also ordered the aircraft.

The Sukhoi SU-35 made a stunning performance at the Paris Air Show 2013. There were a few maneuvers I have never seen before and sometimes this skilled pilot made it very difficult for me to follow the plane. Usually I am only filming civilian planes but the performance of this SU-35 was so impressive so that I had to upload the footage. F35 vs SU35 - which would win? ► Subscribe to Grid 88: 🤍 F35 vs SU35 - which would win? American F35 and SU35 are two of the world’s latest fighter jets. We thought it will be interesting to compare the capabilities of these modern aircraft and try to determine which would win in a real aerial battle against each other. The F35 comes with three types of models know as F35A, F35B and F35C, all with different functions. Pentagon plans to acquire over 3,100 F35, which if delivered will make the F35 one of the most numerous fighter jets ever built. On the other hand, SU35 is the upgraded version of SU27, though an exceptional jet with much improvement. It is so modernized that it attracts the attention of many countries and only China could make its purchase. 1. Specifications Let’s have a look at some specifications first. As of today, around 500 F35s have been built so far. F35B and F35C are comparatively more expensive as per unit cost of F35B and F35C are $116M and $109M respectively, while F35A price tag is around $79M. Operated by crew of 1, the Aircraft’s empty weight is 29,300lb and maximum takeoff weight is around 70,000lb. The jet is powered by a single engine producing 43,000 pounds of thrust. With the help of this engine, the aircraft can gain top speed of Mach 1.6 or about 1,228mph. With the maximum range of 1,700mi, the jet can combat within the radius of 770mi. F35’s climb rate is around 45,000 ft/min and it can reach at maximum altitude of 50,000ft. The aircraft is fitted with 4 internal hardpoints and 6 external weapon stations with a total payload capacity of 18,000Ib. F35 is also armed with a 25mm 4-barrel rotary cannon. In contrast, around 115 SU35 have been built so far with per unit cost of $85M. Operated by a crew of 1, the aircraft comes in at weight of 41,888lb with maximum takeoff weight of 76,059Ib. The Jet is powered by 2 afterburning turbofan engines generating 64,000 pounds of thrust combined. With the help of these engines, the jet can reach at top speed of 1,500mph. With ferry range of 2,800mi, the jet can combat within the radius of 990mi. SU35’s climb rate is around 55,000 ft/min and it can reach at maximum altitude of 59,000ft. The aircraft comes with 12 hardpoints with ordnance carrying capacity of 17,630Ib. The fighter jet is also armed with a 30mm auto cannon. 2. Stealth The F35 has lead in this category as SU35 is not a stealth aircraft at all, however for perspective, the SU35's radar cross section is between 1 to 3 sqm, or about the size of a large table while the RCS of F35 is about the size of an insect… 3. Maneuverability SU35 is based on SU27 platform, so its status as a "super maneuverable" fighter is a matter of fact. Although both jets can slip into heavily defended targets on the ground. F35 will be better in those scenarios while the SU35 is better for air to air battles… 4. Radar & Avionics The F35 is outfitted with latest AN/APG-81 radar capable of tracking 23 targets in 9 seconds and engaging 19 of them in 2.4 seconds. The range of F35 radar is confidential; however some defense analysts believe that this radar can detect a target beyond 300 miles. On the other hand, SU35 employs the powerful Irbis-E radar, capable of detecting an aerial target up to 250mi away. With the help of this radar, SU35 can track 30 airborne targets and engage 8 targets simultaneously. 5. Firepower Both planes are equipped with state of the art missiles capable of shooting each other. The Su-35 Flanker E vs The F-22 Raptors. Which is a better fighter jet?. When we pitted the F-22 against Russia’s universally extolled aircraft the Su-35. The conclusion we came to is that the planes are so different in design and capabilities that they are difficult to compare. The F-22 is a different beast altogether, though, and a machine that is largely seen as the ideal foe for the Su-35. NATO Fighter Jets Scramble to Intercept 3 Russian Su-35 in the Baltic Sea The Nato Air Force has intercepted two Russian fighter jets and a spy plane flying near NATO airspace over the Gulf of Finland and the Baltic Sea. Eurofighter Typhoon, f/a-18 fighter jets from IX(B) Squadron RAF and German Air Force 71st 'Richtofen' Wing were scrambled to intercept and visually identify several unidentified aircraft flying near NATO airspace. One of those aircraft was a Russian Air Force IL-20 Coot-A intelligence aircraft that flew from mainland Russia to Kaliningrad, an enclave bordering Poland that was escorted by Russian SU-35 fighter jets. The intercept this time was by the British and German Air Forces operating Eurofighter Typhoon and f/a-18 fighter jets from Amari Air Base in the Baltic country of Estonia as a joint force. The stunt comes just days after leaked documents showed that Russian fighter jets attempted to fire missiles at British manned planes over the Black Sea last month. Video is for illustration only.
MAKS 2021 Airshow is going on in Russia and this year UAC/Sukhoi have presented a new fighter aircraft, dubbed the #Checkmate, a lightweight, thrust vectoring single engine fighter aircraft aimed at competing with and surpassing the capabilities of the american F-35 by virtue of being faster, flying further, being stealthier and... cheaper (among others). ( : The new Checkmate (Su-75 apparently?) design is quite interesting, featuring a delta planform layout (no canards) with full-flying V-Tail stabs. It also features a quite uncommon chin inlet design that reminds of the X-32. That's all cool and well... but we know who the REAL CHECKMATE is, don't we? :DDD The Su-35 remains as the absolute aerobatic queen-beast of the skies and has win our hearts time and time again with the utmost crazy, UFO-like, physics-defying flight displays and post-stall stunts... so, the bar is raised high for the new jet to try and conquer it! Video of an SU-35 fighter jet landing in Iran was shared by Russian media, the aircraft that Tehran formally bought at the end of March of this year. Moscow's payment for the Iranian weapons export, which included the Shahed 131/136 kamikaze drones, caused the deal to fall apart. The deal covers a total of 60 aircraft, the majority of which the Russian Federation has yet to produce. Iran, meantime, desperately needs these aircraft, as their fleet at the moment looks a combination between an old bench and a zoo. The SU-35 is an advanced version of the SU-27, the most powerful fighter ever created in the Soviet Union.
