Accablé par les dettes, le maestro viennois est aussi gravement malade. Pour ajouter à son malheur, sa musique ne séduit plus, la fréquentation de ses concerts diminue. On ne compte plus les légendes qui entourent le contexte de création de l’œuvre. Mais parmi elles, une vérité se dessine. Le commanditaire de l’œuvre serait le comte von Walsegg, désireux d’obtenir une messe des morts pour célébrer le souvenir de son épouse, tout juste disparue. La demande est faite à Mozart de manière anonyme. Le comte souhaitait en effet se faire passer pour l'auteur de l’œuvre, une supercherie dont il était familier ! Épuisé, Mozart s’éteint le 5 décembre 1791 à l'âge de 35 ans. S’il a probablement composé entièrement les deux premières parties de l’œuvre, l’Introïtus et le Kyrie, le reste a été repris en main par l’un de ses élèves, Franz-Xaver Süssmayr, à partir d’esquisses plus ou moins détaillées. Requiem Mass in D Minor Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's final Masterpiece was commissioned in mid 1791 by the Austrian count Franz Von Walsegg, as a Tribute to the passing of his young wife Anna. Mozart began his final composition in Prague, suffering from an undetermined illness, which would eventually take his life and rob him of the chance to see the completion of his Magnum Opus. After Mozart's death, his understudy 'Franz Xaver Süssmayr', at the behest of Mozart's wife, completed the missing parts of the Requiem. Requiem Mass was first performed on January 2, 1793, in a private concert for the benefit of Mozart's grieving wife, Constanze Mozart. The Following are the lyrics, translated from their Original Latin Grant them eternal rest, Lord, and let perpetual light shine on them. You are praised, God, in Zion, and homage will be paid to You in Jerusalem. Hear my prayer, to You all flesh will come. Grant them eternal rest, Lord, and let perpetual light shine on them. A completion dated 1792 by Franz Xaver Süssmayr was delivered to Count Franz von Walsegg, who had anonymously commissioned the piece for a requiem mass to commemorate the 14th of February anniversary of his wife's death. The autograph manuscript shows the finished and orchestrated introit in Mozart's hand, as well as detailed drafts of the Kyrie and the sequence Dies Irae as far as the first nine bars of "Lacrimosa", and the offertory. It cannot be shown to what extent Süssmayr may have depended on now lost "scraps of paper" for the remainder; he later claimed the Sanctus and Agnus Dei as his own. Walsegg probably intended to pass the Requiem off as his own composition, the bulk of this copy derives from the hand of Franz Süssmayr. The Requiem contains five sections, each capped by a fugue: Requiem/Kyrie, Sequence ("Dies Irae"), Offertory, Sanctus, and Agnus Dei. Throughout, choral writing drives Mozart's music; even the four soloists rarely sing alone. The darkly colored orchestra supports the choir with often vivid motives. This pictorial aspect is most evident in the Sequence: "Tuba mirum" (solo trombone), "Rex tremendae" (regal dotted-rhythms), "Confutatis" (fiery accompaniment), and "Lachrymosa" (sighing strings). Not only do individual movements display an extraordinary level of motivic unity, Mozart carefully creates motivic relationships across the entire Requiem. The very first melody sung by the basses ("Requiem aeternam"), for instance, is repeated at the very end and also echoes throughout the work; the opening melody of "Dies irae" translates into major mode to open the "Sanctus." Mozart is never afraid, however, of acknowledging his debt to earlier traditions of church music. His fugues deliberately reference Bach, and in the first movement alone he quotes from Michael Haydn's Requiem, Handel's funeral anthem for Queen Caroline, Messiah, and the Gregorian chant known as the "Pilgrim's Tone."

Dezember 1837 sind unter der Kuppel des Pariser Invalidendoms mehr als 400 Musiker und Sänger versammelt. Der Staat trauert um den im Kampf gefallenen Militärgouverneur des besetzten Algerien. In der Kirche stehen 200 Chorsänger bereit, ein Solist, rund 180 Instrumentalisten im Hauptorchester und weitere vier Blasorchester. Hector Berlioz denkt wie immer in großen Maßstäben. Musik, davon ist er überzeugt, ist keine körperlose Kunst. Schallwellen breiten sich nicht im Geist aus, sondern im konkreten Raum. Die »Grande Messe des Morts« lässt er mit einer schlicht aufsteigenden Tonleiter beginnen. Die Massen stehen bereit, doch es spielen – unisono – nur Bläser und Streicher. Berlioz beweist Mut zur Reduktion. Nach dem ersten Aufleuchten der Violinen im »Lux aeterna« schließt fast tonlos das »Kyrie eleison« an. Ein tiefer Sprechgesang der unbegleiteten Männerstimmen im dreifachen piano. Das »Dies irae« eröffnen in kindlicher Unschuld die Soprane, lediglich begleitet von den Holzbläsern. Am Anfang dieses längsten Satzes bricht nicht das erwartete Chaos der Apokalypse aus. Nur langsam steigert sich die Satzdichte bis zum »Tuba mirum«. Erst jetzt schicken die Blechbläserensembles, die das große Orchester an allen vier Ecken in die Breite ziehen, ihre Signale in den Raum. Hier geht es nicht um kontrapunktische Finessen, sondern um die Vermessung und Erschließung des Raums. Mit dem Beginn des »Tuba mirum« setzt schließlich auch das große Aufgebot der insgesamt 16 Pauken ein. Zusammen mit großen Trommeln und Tamtams erfüllen sie die Kirche mit einer Mixtur aus Urweltgeräusch und Sphärenharmonie. Sein »Dies irae« konfrontiert mit der »gigantischen Erhabenheit«, die Berlioz im Text vorgeprägt fand. Auf dessen Höhepunkt setzt Berlioz der akustischen Macht des immensen Klangkörpers nur eine einzige Melodie der Chorbässe entgegen: es sind Kontraste wie dieser, aus denen er das Drama des »Requiems« entwickelt. Nur selten setzt er alle Mittel zugleich ein. Meist wählt er nur wenige, allerdings stark besetzte Stimmen und lässt die Mehrheit schweigen. Auch die Präsenz der oft schweigenden Mehrheit gehört zum Konzept seiner Dramaturgie. Auf die Reduktion und Askese des »Quid sum miser« für Männerchor und je zwei tiefe Holzbläser und Streicherstimmen folgt im »Rex tremendae« wieder maximale Prachtentfaltung. Der vielstimmige Massenklang besetzt den Tonraum und die Architektur in ihrer gesamten Höhe, Breite und Tiefe. Das anschließende »Quaerens me« für dreistimmigen Chor a cappella wirft die Hörer dann wieder auf sich selbst und ihre vergleichsweise marginale Größe zurück. Im »Lacrymosa« markieren kurze Paukenschläge das Nahen des Jüngsten Gerichts. Paukendonner untermalt sanft schaukelnde Chorfragmente. Berlioz zeichnet eine opernhafte Szene. Das »Requiem« ist keine Musik, deren Nähe sich das Publikum erarbeiten muss. Berlioz zielt auf Überwältigung durch Massenklänge und den Wechsel zwischen Stille und raumfüllender Monumentalität. In der Orchesterlandschaft des »Offertorium« deklamiert der Chor seinen Text einstimmig, wie eine Gemeinde beim Gebet. Das ausgedehnte »Sanctus« mit Tenorsolo steigert sich in eine dicht instrumentierte Fuge, bis die Bläser im »Agnus Dei« einen gewaltigen Orgelklang simulieren. Der Männerchor alterniert mit den Farbharmonien dieser virtuellen Kirchenorgel. Cansado de buscar una traducción del Requiem que se adaptara lo más posible a la obra de Mozart, decidí hacer una versión propia más acorde a la fonética latina sacrificando poesía castellana. La idea es escuchar la obra en latín y poder comprender cada palabra de la misma en español. A su vez, escuché todas las versiones que encontré de esta obra que están subidas a youtube y me decidí por la de Herbert von Karajan debido a la precisión rigurosa, respetuosa y apasionada de la ejecución, la uniformidad y profesionalismo del coro y la orquesta sinfónica. Al margen de la antigüedad de la obra, no se puede negar que el sonido, el trabajo de dirección de cámaras, el silencio del público y la solemnidad del lugar la hacen inigualable al día de hoy. Citando a Wikipedia decimos que: La Misa de Réquiem en re menor, K. 626, es una obra de Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart basada en los textos latinos para el réquiem, es decir, el acto litúrgico católico celebrado tras el fallecimiento de una persona; se trata de la decimonovena y última misa escrita por Mozart. Mozart murió antes de terminarla, en 1791 Ahora sigo yo: Para completar la escasa información que existe sobre el tema, podemos decir que es una obra de increíble belleza, sin rigurosidad en la fecha de su composición. Ahora bien, podemos ver en obras de Tertuliano, San Cipriano y otros autores de la Patrística referencias a las ofrendas por los difuntos (S.II - S.III) y que celebraban el Santo Sacrificio para la fecha del fallecimiento. En consecuencia, esta práctica trajo aparejado consigo la composición de una misa propia para los difuntos. Si bien, como decíamos anteriormente, no podemos fijar una fecha exacta para este nuevo modo litúrgico, la obra presenta todas las características de una composición sumamente antigua, probablemente del siglo III - IV, y aun quizás de los anteriores, por lo menos en algunas de sus piezas ya que cuenta con epitafios antenicenos como el "Dales, Señor, el descanso eterno: y brille para ellos la luz perpetua", proveniente del libro 4 de Esdras no incluído en los canónicos y que perdió autoridad en el S. IV. Curiosamente el Ofertorium es tal vez una de las reliquias antenicena de la liturgia que se conserva de la oración de los fieles ya que ha desaparecido por completo de la liturgia romana posterior. Kyrie eleison es una de las súplicas proferidas por los primeros mártires de la Iglesia Católica, esta oración litánica se remonta a la más alta antigüedad propia de los mártires y confesores condenados a las minas o a la carcel siendo una de las más bellas y elocuentes preces cristianas de los primeros siglos, antes que el Nuevo Testamento estuviera completamente definido. (Cabrol 1947) Para concluir diremos que esta obra de Mozart es una actualización musical de una oración que tiene casi dos mil años, llevada a cabo con dignidad y profundo respeto. A su vez, nos permite remitirnos a la profunda oración de los primeros cristianos, contemplar como pensaban en la vida y la muerte. Cristián Expósito
